Google Pages allows Adsense ads

Some publishers using Google Pages have today received an email from AdSense telling them that they are now able to use AdSense in the pages that they create. Here’s the email those of us who got the email got:

We’re happy to let you know that Google Page Creator is now compatible with AdSense. Please feel free to add the AdSense code to your Page Creator web pages. If you don’t know how to implement the AdSense code with Google Page Creator, please follow the instructions below:

1. Log into your AdSense accoun t at www.google.com/adsense

2. From the AdSense Setup tab, customize and generate your AdSense code

3. Copy the generated code from the ‘Your AdSense code’ box

4. Log into your Google Page Creator account

5. Select the web page you’d like to dis play AdSense ads

6. Select the field where you’d like the ads to appear

7. Click ‘Edit HTML’

8. Paste the AdSense code in the HTML source code of the page

9. Save your updated web page

10. Publish your web page

After taking the steps above, your ads should appear shortly. If you have trouble implementing the Ad Sense code onto your web page, please feel free to respond to this email.

Take it from someone who has been screwed over by Adsense! They are far too highly regarded in the Publisher Network world! Forget them and move on to a better and smaller company like Bidvertiser or Clicksor!

Could it be that time already, Summer is half over! NOOOOOO! hah. Unfortunately it is true, summer is nearing the half way point and before you know it, we will all be back to school! So get your parents credit cards and go get yourself some new clothes for your upcoming Semester! Hopefully that will keep the depression to a minimum! Hah!

The impact of Adsense ad positioning

Seth Godin has written a post on SquidBlog about their experiment at Squidoo with moving AdSense ads from the right hand column to a more central position. As you’d expect, and as we’ve talked about here at ProBlogger many times, the click throughs went up significantly (it tripled).
But that’s not the only benefit that Seth noticed:

‘But the surprising result of the AdSense move is this: content-based clicks went UP, not down. I think I understand why, and it goes to my third point, which is a hunch, not based on data:

Having competitive products in your AdSense ads actually helps you, not hurts you.

When people get to a website, a whole bunch of things have to happen before they take out their wallets and buy something. A lot of those things have to do with trust and meaning and understanding and confidence. The vernacular of your site, the story it tells, the way it makes me feel (insecure? safe? confident? panicked? stupid? engaged?) is probably the single most important element in turning a stranger into a friend before they have a chance of becoming a customer.

So, Google AdSense ads across the top increase confidence. They’re recognizable and safe for the surfer. They make it clear that there are alternatives. They demonstrate confidence on the part of the site builder….’

I think it’s an interesting lesson and I’d be interested to see if the changes they’ve noticed are sustained (sometimes once ad blindness kicks in things change again with AdSense).

I also think that this would vary from blog to blog and publisher to publisher. I find that ads have a significantly different impact upon a site both in terms of click-through, traffic, blog interaction (comments) on different sites. The key is to test and track results to see what impact they have.
